Usability in Web Design

Four years of usability studies on the web result in three primary goals of web design [Nielsen, 1997]. When you write for the web, make it:

  • Concise: People do not like long, scrolling pages, they prefer text to be short and to the point.
  • Scannable: People do not read on the web; they scan, trying to pick out a few sentences to get the information they want.
  • Objective: People detest anything that seems like fluff or overly hyped language, they prefer factual information.

For more information, see Nielson, 1997.
